Our mission is to make every patient visit a positive experience so as to encourage goodwill and adherence to their healthcare needs.
Our NH licensed physical and occupational therapists offer immediate personalized treatment for musculoskeletal, orthopedic, sports and work-related injuries. Patients are assured a seamless delivery of care with the referring physician.
Salem Sports & Rehab's arthritis exercise program is a unique experience which includes:
Aquatic therapy why? The soothing warmth and buoyancy of water makes this environment perfect for relieving joint pain and stiffness. The water will increase circulation, support the joints and help build muscle strength, all while assisting in joint protection and energy conservation.
Physical & Occupational Therapy: Skilled rehabilitation, given by Physical or Occupational Therapists, which provides intervention services with a main focus on return-to-function. Sports and Rehab has multiple staff in these areas; all licensed in the State of New Hampshire. Various members of our dedicated staff also have extra qualifications as well.
Hand Rehabilitation: Specialized therapeutic intervention regarding the forearm, wrist and hand. This service also entails customized splinting fabrication as well as ergonomic intervention. Many of these professionals are Occupational Therapists with Certified Hand Therapist credentials.
Athletic Training: These licensed professionals provide a unique skill to the facilities. They work closely with all of the athletes from the surrounding communities to provide assistance on the field as well as in the therapeutic setting. Therefore, a smooth transition between the two is constantly obtained.
Aquatic Therapy: Therapy services performed at a nearby aquatic location. Individualized treatment plans allow patients to obtain the vast benefits of pool therapeutic activities under the supervision of Sport and Rehab Staff.
Work Conditioning: A focused branch of therapy, work conditioning is catered to the patient that may have exceeded traditional intervention - but has not yet successfully obtained the necessary skills to fully return to their occupation. This highly individualized treatment is typically a two hour-long session, two times a week, with specific work simulated activities that places an emphasis on ergonomics.
Pre and Post-Surgical Intervention: This treatment is constructed for the patient who requires a surgical procedure. Many doctors have specific protocols (or guidelines) that are necessary to be followed for both the preparation of the procedure and the healing process afterward. The therapists and Sport and Rehab work closely with the physicians to ensure successful outcomes of surgical interventions.
Back Program: For the patient that suffers back ailments, this program offers extensive lifting training and back-specific exercises. Following specific guidelines, this treatment is shown to be highly effective in chronic back pain patients and for the prevention of further back problems.
Gait Training: Returning to walking activities safely and efficiently is the definition of gait training. This intervention uses balance and strengthening to improve walking stability and may require canes, crutches, parallel bars etc. Each part of a person's step is also evaluated and rehabilitated by the staff at Sports and Rehab.
Golf/Sports Specific Programs: Specific treatments for the patient involved in golf or other sport activities. These sessions can focus on things such as the grip on a club or the follow-through of a swing. The patient's ergonomics and form are evaluated intensely with these programs.
Women's Health/Incontinence Training: The use of biofeedback to add in the education and self awareness of the pelvic floor. This training assists women who suffer from incontinence due to a variety of reasons. This program is highly successful and performed in a private environment.
Modality Treatments
Electrical Stimulation: Various forms of stimulation that assist with pain control and/or muscle contraction.
Forms of e-stim include but are not limited to: Interferential, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS),
neuromuscular electrical stimulation and biofeedback.
Laser Technology: Infrared light therapy which stimulates cellular healing. This is a non-thermal modality
and has wide spread applications.
Fluidotherapy: A heat modality that simulates a whirlpool but utilizes dry particles as a substitute. This is used
primarily for upper extremity injuries and conditions.
Phono/Iontophoresis: Modalities that introduce medications into the skin tissue using a direct current. This
process is useful to help with inflammation, scar tissue and other conditions associated with injuries.
Ultrasound: The application of deep head through a sound head with the use of gel to transmit a specific sound
wave. Ultrasound is useful in treating various ailments and is used widely in therapeutic settings.
Custom Orthotics: Individualized orthotics are molded specifically to your feet to help assist in gait or pain relief.
Custom Splinting: Various materials are used to fabricate splints (or semi-permanent braces) for the elbow, wrist, hand and fingers to assist with many conditions and injuries. These splints are custom made for the patient and are prescribed by your physician.
We offer a full compliment of supplies; over the counter arch inserts, spur cushions, Biofreeze and a multitude of other healthcare supplies.

You may be suffering from TMJ or TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder)
TMJ stands for the Temporomandibular Joint or Jaw Joint. These small joints are considered to be one of the most complex joints in the entire body because of the intricate network of bones, teeth, muscles and nerves. Because of this, TMJ (dysfunction) conditions affect many areas of the body from the top of the head in Migrane like headaches to numbness or tingling in the arms and pain in the neck and shoulders.
Sports and Rehab utilizes therapeutic modalities, hands on techniques and exercise in conjunction with your Oral Surgeon, Dentist or Physician to relieve TMJ related pain and dysfunction.

What is a Trigger Point Dry Needling?
A trigger point is a “knot” in the muscle tissue that may be tender to the touch. A trigger point may also cause
“referred pain,” or pain which is distant from the trigger point. For example, a muscle in the hip can cause pain
all the way down the leg, and may be mistaken for “sciatic” pain. Chronic trigger points can lead to dysfunction,
such as in the spine, where a tight muscle can cause pressure on the nerves, leading to a cycle of pain and
dysfunction.
With trigger point dry needling, therapists use a needle, similar to an acupuncture needle, and insert it into the
skin and muscle directly at the trigger point. The needle causes an electrical effect. After needling, the spontaneous electrical activity ends and the muscle “lets go” of its self-perpetuating contraction, allowing a chemical change,
increased blood flow to the area, AND REVLIEVING THE PAIN.
At Sports and Rehab, the therapist will treat trigger points as part of a complete therapy program. It is
important to deactivate the trigger points that are causing pain or dysfunction. But, it is equally important, to
determine the root of the dysfunction. Therapists may also use several other treatment options, including
GRASTON, stretching, strengthening, laser, and iontophoresis to assist the healing process and correct imbalances.

“I have been in pain for 7 years which made me have to retire from my job. I have tried Cortisone
injections, Botox injections, epidural injections, acupuncture, chiropractic and physical therapy,
nothing has helped. I have been forced to live on pain medications. After 4 treatment of Dry Needling
I am now 80% better, I am getting my life back” - Sally D. |

“The effects trigger point dry needling therapy have been swift and incredible! I have had chronic
shoulder/neck and hip muscular problems for years and I've tried every kind of treatment out there
to resolve them, to no avail. After 1 session of dry needling, my mobility improved greatly! My hip,
which has not worked normally for years almost has full range of motion! I can walk normally and
even cross-country ski again” - Anne P. Ph.D. |
